Good evening from your team at Salem Reporter.

As Hurricane Ian slammed into Florida on Wednesday, Oregon was ready to help.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office launched a team of 13 people drawn from various fire agencies to help what is likely to be a long, hard recovery.

Agencies represented on the Oregon incident team include Marion County Fire District 1 and the Idanha-Detroit Rural Fire Protection District. Others are from Grande Ronde Fire, Molalla Fire, Albany Fire, McKenzie Fire and Rescue, Sutherline Fire, Eugene-Springfield Fire, Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue, Clackamas County Fire District 1, and the Portland Fire Bureau.

The team will learn its assignment while en route and the crews are expected to be on the ground in Florida for two weeks, according to the fire marshal’s office.

Meantime, here’s some of the local news of the day. Catch all Salem Reporter’s stories anytime on our website.
