| We know many of you care about ethical, fair journalism. We need your support for our training of two young journalists from the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication. Our goal is to raise $8,000 to match the university’s funding for this full-time summer positions for salary, benefits and other costs. Salem Reporter has a robust program in place so Reilly Norgren and Brook Ferris learn about our high standards of professionalism. They will engage in three ethical exercises for the UO while undertaking the kind of fair, accurate news you have come to expect from Salem Reporter. Your tax-deductible contribution ensures we can continue this effort. Thank you from all of us at Salem Reporter. –Les Zaitz, editor and owner TO DONATE: Salem Reporter News Fund |
| FAQ Q: Why is Salem Reporter doing this? A: We are committed to helping train the next generation of journalists. Though our newsroom is small, our team has the experience and willingness to work directly with early career journalists. In our modest way, we are working to elevate the quality of work performed in our profession to the benefit of Salem – and subsequently other communities. Q: Are donations to Salem Reporter tax deductible? A: Thanks for our partnership with Report for America, every contribution to our News Fund is tax-deductible. Donors will receive documentation of their gift for tax purposes. Q: How can I or my company contribute? A: Donations can be made directly online by going to Salem Reporter News Fund. If you prefer, you may send a check to Salem Reporter (494 State St. Suite 410 Salem OR 97301), noting that it is a Salem Reporter News Fund donation. Q: Does my donation go fully to journalism? A: Every dollar raised covers the costs of delivering news to Salem. There is no administrative fee. Q: Why does Salem Reporter need donations? A: Our operation is locally owned and funded. We have no deep corporate pockets. Subscribers provide most of our revenue, and that is used to sustain the existing team of five journalists. We seek the community’s support to continue a valuable educational program for young journalists. Without such support, we would not have the resources to carry on this effort. Q: What is Salem Reporter’s fundraising goal? A: We aim to raise $8,000 by Aug. 1 to cover salary and more for the two journalists. |
