Good evening, Salem.

Students at West Salem High School are planning a walkout tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and urge support for immigrant students.

It’s one of several recent actions high school students have taken in recent weeks to oppose immigration enforcement practices. Students described to Salem Reporter and in public forums that fear and anger among classmates is impacting school and leaving some fearful of coming to class or being separated from relatives.

The walkout isn’t school-sponsored, and students who miss class will be counted unexcused absent, school officials said. Read more in our story below about what students say they’re seeing at school.
