Salem Health and Santiam Hospital file with state to merge

Salem Health and Santiam Hospital & Clinics have asked the state to approve a $61 million deal that could merge the nonprofit hospital systems by fall.

The mid-Valley hospitals publicly announced their intent to merge on Monday, Jan. 19. They signed an internal letter to seek partnership last summer, Salem Reporter previously reported. They filed their request with the state on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

The move will allow Santiam to invest in health care…

  1. Any discussion of what this means for patients insured by Regence like myself. Now I go further for in network care?

  2. Salem Health has done a great disservice to those insured by Regence. It would be nice if this issue was revisited now that they have bought most of the clinics and doctors in our area with their “nonprofit “ organization.

  3. I have worried about Salem Health becoming a monopoly in the Salem area for decades…now it is close to a reality.

  4. Salem Reporter gave a very unbiased, thorough account of a complicated partnership. Health care costs are better controlled — and care is better — when everyone works together to keep staff engaged and clinics equipped with constantly changing technology and health knowledge. If you think Salem Health is “taking over as a monopoly” then you don’t agree with what Santiam Hospital said in this story.
