Longtime volunteer historian reflects on love for Salem ahead of 100th birthday

On her first visit to Salem, Virginia Green saw the river, public library and historic downtown and immediately knew she wanted to call the city home.

That was over 25 years ago. Since then, she has dedicated herself to preserving much of Salem’s heritage by volunteering at the public library and serving on its advisory board, the City Budget Committee and the Historic Landmarks Commission.
