Good morning, Salem.

It’s been a little over a month since paid parking went into effect in downtown Salem. It’s proved a moneymaker for the city, generating on average about $8,400 per day over the first month from over 3,000 daily transactions, city officials told us.

Salem Reporter is working on a story looking at the first month of downtown parking in more detail. We’d love to hear from people who work downtown or people who come downtown occasionally to shop or eat. Are you paying for parking, or walking more? Carpooling? Taking the bus? Getting a permit for a city garage?

Also, we are interested in hearing from delivery drivers or restaurant owners who rely on carryout orders. How has paid parking impacted you? If you are interested in sharing please email reporter Joe Siess at [email protected].
