Your Wednesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

More than 100 local educators are in the running for a Crystal Apple award this year.

The annual award recognizes the teachers, assistants, counselors, custodians, office workers, principals, bus drivers and more who keep schools running in the area. Most nominees are from the Salem-Keizer School District, but some private school educators are also included.

The district posted a list of nominees this week, though spokesman Aaron Harada said it’s missing a few names of people who haven’t yet been notified of their nomination.

Winners will be announced at the annual red carpet event put on by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 7-9 p.m. at the Salem Convention Center. Tickets will go on sale in April and typically sell out quickly.
