  1. Good information keep digging on really just who is getting this help. I’m on social security only and pay out of pocket People need to contribute in some way when receiving free anything. Pickup trash would even help this failing city

    • Does attaching shame to welfare help anyone? If you meet a $10,000 deductible does that make you honorable? This article is an illustration of how messed up our healthcare system is, not a reason to finger point at the poor. The richest country in the world should choose to heal its people.

  2. I am gladdened to hear that our local hospital is stepping up to help the community it serves. The community has helped the hospital with tax-exempt status and volunteers from the community to the hospital, among other things. Reciprocity. It works when there is good faith.

  3. “Pacific Source doesn’t pay Salem Health the full amount of what it costs to care for patients “….that is true for other non profit health care providers as well. This needs to be fixed or more providers will stop providing Medicare /Medicaid coverage for much needed services.
