Grant funding continues Salem police involvement in violence reduction work

Salem police officials continue to connect young men with gang-intervention resources in an attempt to reduce the number of shootings, which were at a record high in recent years.

Continued federal funding is supporting the department’s approaches of community involvement, staff training and data analysis.

Those efforts stem from a citywide focus to reduce violent crime and intervene with young men as part of the Community Violence Reduction Initiative, which launched two years ago.…
