Salem 14-year-old killed in crash on SE Lancaster Drive

A 14-year-old boy was killed in a crash in east Salem on Tuesday night, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

In a Wednesday statement, the sheriff’s office said the boy, a pedestrian, was hit by a driver on Southeast Lancaster Drive, near Southeast Mahrt Avenue.

The agency provided limited information about the crash and the victim, citing the family’s privacy.

The crash was reported to the sheriff’s office around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, and first responders arrived at the scene within minutes, the statement said.

Responders pronounced the victim dead on scene, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver involved stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The agency said no arrests have been made related to the crash.

Traffic in the area was impacted for several hours as Lancaster Drive was closed between State Street and Mahrt Avenue while deputies investigated on scene, the agency said.

This is the sixth fatal crash in the Salem area in 2026 so far, according to Salem Reporter’s coverage.
