Riverfront Park playground to be transformed for accessibility, nature play

The playground at Riverfront Park is set to be modernized and transformed into a nature- and wildlife-themed experience with new synthetic grass, logs and real boulders. 

The existing playground will close on Monday, April 13, when crews will begin setting up the area for construction. The entire project, which is expected to cost about $2.5 million should be completed by mid- to late summer, city spokeswoman Kathy Ursprung said.

  1. All of our parks and playgrounds are now being smothered in toxic plastic artificial grass! Who wanted this? Who decided and approved of this? Who is going to make money from this? Why are we knowingly poisoning our children and communities ??? And most importantly, how can we stop this from continuing throughout Salem? Minto Brown Island park is a wildlife conservation area but we’re planning to put poison on the ground to kill all the living creatures beneath it? If there is way to change this plan , please publish that story!
