EDITOR’S NOTE: Salem Reporter brings back election Town Hall after reader feedback

UPDATE: Challenger Chris Cummings confirmed his participation in an email on Monday, Feb. 9. All eight council candidates are now committed.
We listened to the community and Salem Reporter is going ahead with a city election event.
Clearly, people who reached out to us feel a Town Hall is for them, not for candidates.
Readers reacted after I shared not long ago that we were scrubbing a planned debate between those running for mayor.

Thank you for doing this – presenting both the council and mayoral candidates at the same event is a better idea yet, IMO. Participating in unscripted public events is a big part of the job for Salem’s volunteer elected officials, and something candidates should consider before seeking office.
