City, mayor say governor’s office never asked Salem leaders to sign immigration letter

Gov. Tina Kotek didn’t include Salem’s mayor in a recent request to sign a letter demanding the federal government temporarily pause federal immigration enforcement in the state, Mayor Julie Hoy said.

I don’t believe this one bit. The Governor’s letter came out 2/5 and Mayor Hoy had nothing to say about this until the evening of 2/9? Plenty of opportunity to sign on to (a relatively tame) letter asking for a pause in ICE enforcement while the violence is investigated. Shame on Hoy and shame on all of us for putting up with her!
How were the mayors who signed the letter contacted by the Governor’s office? Was it through City staff? I don’t often give our mayor the benefit of the doubt, but it would be helpful to know what the process was for having mayors sign the letter before throwing her under the bus.
What a crock. There are not people scared, this whole thing with immigration enforcement is a day lie. No one is scared for any reason, except maybe those that don’t belong here. Tina Kotex is the worst governor the state has ever had, she should be impeached. Stop the tax increases, stop letting utilities increase their prices, stop increasing our property taxes, stop regulating everything to make it more expensive. We need to get back to affordability, and to get there we must reduce the illegal population as well.
But the city council was sure quick to cough up $200,000 dollars for illegal. Did our property tax increase from this last year pay for this? This is ridiculous, Hoy is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. At least with the last Mayor Hoy you knew where he stood, even though he was terrible. Hoy talks out of both sides of her mouth.
