Salem cyclist killed on MLK Parkway

A car struck and killed a 45-year-old Salem cyclist Sunday evening on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, Salem police said.

Andrew Hillier was riding a bike southbound on the sidewalk along the parkway when he entered the road around 8 p.m., police said in a Monday evening statement.

A vehicle driven by Jonathan Jimenez-Osorio, 19, of Independence, struck Hillier near the intersection of Northeast Broadway Street.

Jimenez-Osorio stopped, called 911 and attempted to provide aid to Hillier, police said. He remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

Hillier was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is the 16th fatal crash in the Salem area in 2025, according to Salem Reporter’s prior coverage. It’s the seventh fatal crash this year that Salem police have investigated.
