Salem motorcyclist hit, killed near southeast Salem early Sunday morning

A Salem motorcyclist was struck and killed by a driver just east of Salem early Sunday morning.

A driver in a black SUV hit and killed Zachariah Brown, 44, while he rode a motorcycle along Southeast Ganon Street just after 3 a.m. Sunday, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported at the 6400 block of Ganon Street at 3:15 a.m., an agency statement said.

When deputies arrived at 3:25 a.m., they found Brown with fatal injuries and declared him dead at the scene, according to the statement and dispatch logs.

The driver, whom the sheriff’s office did not name, stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests have been made, Sgt. Jeremy Schwab, spokesperson for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, said.

Roads in the area were closed from around 4:25 a.m. to 9 a.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said yesterday.

The Marion County CRASH Team is investigating the crash.

Brown worked as a contractor for RDG Construction Services in Salem, according to his Facebook.

It was the second fatal crash in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

Brittany Hochstetler died after being hit by an SUV on Southeast Commercial Street around 2:19 a.m. Sunday, the Salem Police Department said.

This is the 14th fatal crash in the Salem area of 2025, according to Salem Reporter’s coverage.
