UPDATE: Marion County commissioners approve approve state funding for juvenile services

The Marion County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday unanimously approved a state grant to continue funding services dedicated to preventing juvenile crime.

Commissioners accepted $466,000 from the state Department of Education for the Marion County Juvenile Department. That brought the new contract total to $929,000 and extended it through June 2025.

The state agency’s Youth Development Division sets aside such funding for Oregon counties every two years to help reduce the rates at which minors are arrested and reoffend.

The board also unanimously approved adding $3.46 million of federal funding to a contract with the Oregon Health Authority for operating public health services, such as disease prevention and education, through June 2025. The new contract totals about $10.45 million.

Commissioners also unanimously approved reducing a contract with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management by about $22,500 in unspent funding for Marion County Sheriff’s Office patrol on BLM land within the county. The new contract totals $226,000.
