2 teens, motorcyclist killed in separate Salem collisions

Police say three people were killed in two collisions Friday and Sunday in Salem.
The first crash early Friday morning in south Salem killed two teens riding in the bed of a pickup truck. The following day, a motorcyclist was killed in a collision in west Salem, the Salem Police Department announced in separate news releases.
Police responded around 2 a.m. Friday to a crash near the intersection of Kuebler Boulevard and Southeast 27th Avenue.
A pickup truck carrying five people was headed east on Kuebler when it drove off the road onto uneven ground and hit a light post.
“The pick-up rolled and landed on its top, ejecting the two people riding in the bed of the truck,” according to a Salem police news release. Paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene.
Police identified one of the people killed as 18-year-old Ian N. Ramirez-Carlos. The second person killed is a 15-year-old girl. The agency does not identify minors who are victims in criminal investigations.
The other three passengers fled on foot and were found by a police dog team near the crash scene. Police named one of the passengers, 20-year-old Mariana Servin, saying the others were a 16-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy. They were taken to Salem Hospital with injuries.
The eastbound lanes on Kuebler Boulevard were closed for around four hours while police investigated the crash.
Department spokeswoman Angela Hedrick said Monday that the agency would not release information about citations or arrests due to the pending investigation.
Salem police responded to the second crash shortly after midnight on Sunday near the intersection of Glen Creek and Northwest Doaks Ferry Road.
Officers arrived to find an unresponsive man with severe injuries. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, the department said in a news release.
Police determined the motorcyclist was trying to negotiate a curve in the road when he lost control, slid and stopped a short distance past the curb.
The motorcycle went through an adjacent fence. Speed appeared to be a factor in the collision,” according to the statement.
Police identified the motorcyclist as 40-year-old Timothy E. Smith.
The intersection and surrounding street were closed for around three and a half hours.
