YOUR GOVERNMENT: Marion County commissioners consider state help for road safety plan

The Marion County Board of Commissioners meets Wednesday to consider accepting a $186,000 grant from the state Department of Transportation to plan for road safety measures based on crash data.

The state funding would help create a “transportation safety action plan,” with the state providing about $150,000 and the county covering the rest.

AGENDA

They will also consider adding about $156,000 to a contract with the state Department of Transportation to build pedestrian and bicycle improvements on Southeast Connecticut Avenue in Salem, from Macleay Road to Rickey Street. The new contract would total about $1.28 million.

Commissioners will also consider a $450,000 contract with Government Portfolio Advisors to manage the county’s investments.

The board will consider updating the county’s ambulance service area plan to reflect 2020 census data for population density in its response time map.

Commissioners will consider scheduling a public hearing for March 15 to consider an exemption allowing the county to use a construction management general contractor for developing sewer systems in the Santiam Canyon. State and county contracting rules require that the board adopt a finding of public benefit before using “alternative contracting procedures,” according to the agenda item.

The board will consider recommending approval of 94 Oregon Liquor Control Commission renewal applications and denial of one application for Remmy’s Nightclub Restaurant and Sports Bar in Salem. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office after reviewing all applications determined the nightclub “has had crimes committed upon its premises, or has other issues of public concern.”

They will also consider distributing $89,700 in revenue from timber sales in the county. The largest amounts would be $31,000 to Marion County, about $30,800 to the North Santiam School District #29J and $20,000 to the County School Fund.
