Your Wednesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem……
The air you breath isn’t going to be so good through Thursday night, the state is warning.
The state Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality alert for Salem and other areas of the Willamette Valley.
Here’s part of what the agency put out on Wednesday:
An Air Quality Advisory has been issued due to elevated levels ozone pollution, or smog. High levels of ozone in the lower atmosphere in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels at times through Thursday evening.
DEQ urges residents to protect their health and limit activities that cause pollution during the heat wave. Recommendations include:
•Limit driving by using public transit, carpooling and other
alternative transportation.
•Avoid unnecessary engine idling.
•Refuel vehicles during cooler evening hours.
•Postpone mowing the lawn or using leaf blowers.
•Postpone painting and aerosol spray projects.
