Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem!
The National Weather Service is keeping in place its warning about critical conditions that could lead to rapid spread of any fires that get started. The “red flag warning” is in effect through Saturday night.
“Conditions may be favorable for rapid fire spread which may threaten life and property,” according to the National Weather Service.
In Salem on Friday afternoon, winds already were gusting to 25 mph and higher. Our team is keeping a close eye on all developments and will provide updates on our website and social media accounts as warranted.
Here’s our story from last evening that provides a lot of useful background about these events and then some other news of the day. Catch all the news anytime on our website.
