Your Monday evening update on Salem news

Salem Reporter logo

Good evening from your team at Salem Reporter.

We welcome a new reporter to the team – Abbey McDonald. She comes to us from The Astorian in Astoria, where she reported on business. She also was an intern in 2021 at the Malheur Enterprise, operated by our editor, Les Zaitz. She is a University of Oregon graduate and will focus her reporting on growth in Salem, health care issues, and Salem city government.

This is our continuing commitment to bring talented journalists to Salem to provide you fair and accurate reporting that is harder and harder to come by.

Also, today we launched a six-part series on the governor’s race, work done in collaboration with five other newsrooms. The effort was orchestrated by Lynne Terry, editor of the Oregon Capital Chronicle. She explained the intent in a commentary published Monday.

Here’s some of today’s news. Catch all Salem Reporter’s stories anytime on our website.
