Your Thursday evening update on Salem news

Good evening….
Salem is in for a cold night that will freeze wet streets. We have details on the forecast, warming shelters – and how kids spent the day off.
Meantime, we bring you a new addition to our coverage of Salem today as part of our continuing collaboration with Capital Community Media.
The team there has started a regular feature called “Stories of Salem,” featuring a video production and article about an individual in Salem.
The idea of sharing this work was sparked by a joint appearance by our editor, Les Zaitz, and Meghan Jonas, community news director for CC Media, at a local meeting of the League of Women Voters.
Such collaborations are vital for a city the size of Salem to ensure more voices, more coverage can be provided.
Jonas explained the intent of the new series in a web posting.
“You can expect stories that highlight the important work being done in our community, amplify the voices of our neighbors, and provide resources that are valuable to you,” she wrote. “We want to tell the stories of people and organizations that have been left out of traditional media’s focus, shining a light on narratives that otherwise may not be told. Salem is a diverse landscape filled with varying perspectives.”
We welcome their work and appreciate their willingness to let us share that work.
