UPDATED: Overnight snow triggers closure of Salem schools for Thursday

UPDATE: The City of Salem is delaying the opening of the Salem Public Library and Center 50+ until noon.

With snow hitting the are overnight, the Salem-Keizer School District announced that schools are closed for Thursday, Feb. 23.

Salem Academy closed and canceled all activities and has no preschool or child care. Willamette Valley Christian in Brooks also announced it would be closed.

Also closed:

•Family Building Blocks

• Chemeketa Community College: All Chemeketa campuses and outreach centers. Fully remote classes will run as scheduled. Tenant operations continue as required. Essential employees are to connect with supervisors.

•Bridgeway Recovery Services: All outpatient programs and administrative office- closed. Detox and residential services open.

•Institute of Technology in Salem: Closed

•Willamette Education Service District: Salem offices closed

The National Weather Service forecast that the Salem area could get up to another two inches of snow. As of 6 a.m., the temperature at the Salem Airport was 33.

“Lingering snow showers, some heavy at times, will impact the area through this morning, then taper off from north to south through the afternoon,” the weather service said in continuing a winter weather advisory until 10 a.m.

Cherriots announced that stops on Route 6 in south Salem are closed. That includes stops along Baxter, Battle Creek, Reed, Rees Hill, Fairway, Sunnyside and Mildred.

In Portland, the state wrestling championships scheduled for Thursday have been canceled as OSAA works on a revised schedule.
