Your Friday evening update on Salem news

Good evening….
With little notice, five trumpet players from local high schools get the chance of a lifetime next month, accepted into a prestigious national competition.
Lucky for you, there are two chances to give them a listen.
One is to watch their Youtube video, submitted as they applied for selection to take part in the National Trumpet Competition.
The second is to see them in person on Monday at the Elsinore Theatre. The players in the Salem Trumpet Ensemble are student trumpet players Kaden Blake, Nicholas Peterson-Hunt and Nick Telford from West Salem High School, Keegan Arnsmeier from McNary High School and Ian King from Sprague High School.
A link to the video and details on Monday are in the story below.
And this weekend’s weather is forecast to turn soggy if not possibly snowy on Saturday. You can duck out of the weather with a free concert at the Salem Public Library on Sunday, and details on that are in Laura Tesler’s story below.
We hope you have a safe and entertaining weekend.
