Your Monday evening update on Salem news

Good morning….
The folks at Capitol Auto Group know how to sell cars but they also know a thing or two about fun.
Once again, the Salem company went to work raising money for United Way of the Mid-Willamette Valley.
This isn’t your usual bake sale.
For weeks, employees at the constellation of dealerships seem to out-hustle each other to raise the money and to be most creative.
This year, that meant a lot of focus on rabbits. Workers could buy a “Bunny Bundle” – pink socks decorated with bunnies and then a number rabbit’s foot for in-house prize drawings.
“Then on Friday we had secret bunny police walking around and if you were wearing your bunny socks you got a little surprise too,” according to Carrie Casebeer, Capitol Auto marketing director. “We also had a great time with bunny therapy. Two Wednesdays during the month we brought in live rabbits and you could sit in a nice chair and pet the rabbit to relax – for a fee.”
United Way officials said the money would be used to support low-cost cottage rentals for seniors through Cottages United, supporting SafeSleep United, a women’s shelter, Taylor’s House, a shelter for teens, and an after-school academy through Good360.
