Good evening, Salem.

Candidates today began filing for 2026 elections – including Salem’s mayor and city council races.

Among the notable local announcements – Councilor Vanessa Nordyke, who was elected to a second term in 2024, will challenge Julie Hoy for the mayor’s job. Hoy is midway through her first year on the job after winning election last spring. She filed Thursday to run for re-election.

Joe Siess, our local government reporter, has more on Nordyke’s plans if she’s elected, and what we know about other councilors’ plans.

Here’s some of today’s news. Head to our website anytime for the latest Salem news.
