Happy Halloween, Salem!

We’ll be putting together a photo gallery of tonight’s festivities, featuring some of the best local costumes you all have pulled together.

Some local couples chose to celebrate a different way, with 10 weddings held today at the Marion County Justice Court. Find our photos and a write-up of the festivities below.

Three Salem high schools are putting on free Halloween events open to the community Tuesday evening. Kids can trick-or-treat through the halls and get candy from high school students. Events are at:

North Salem High School, 765 14th St. N.E., 5-8 p.m.
South Salem High School, 1910 Church St. S.E, 6-7:30 p.m.
McKay High School, 2440 Lancaster Dr. N.E., 5:30-7 p.m.

One more reminder – Halloween is the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians in the United States, so please be careful tonight. Drivers, watch for kids and pedestrians, and keep your lights on.

Trick-or-treaters, be sure you’re visible and use crosswalks when crossing the street.

We hope you have a fun – and safe – night, with plenty of candy.
