Good evening, Salem.
We hope you have a restful Memorial Day weekend. If you’re looking to observe the holiday in Salem, our weekend events guide has a few options for you.
Our team will be off Monday, so catch our next email news update Tuesday morning.
One note – if you’re heading to another county to camp or burn a fire, Marion County is part of Oregon’s quarantine area for emerald ash borer. That means it’s prohibited to transport ash, olive and white fringe trees outside the county in an effort to control the invasive bug’s spread. Your best bet is to buy firewood close to your destination instead.
MMIW Search and Hope Alliance, a Gresham-based community group which brings attention to missing Indigenous people across the state, is organizing a ground search and flyer distribution for Eli Enriquez, a 16-year-old who family members say was last seen on May 19 by North Salem High School, according to the group. They’re looking for volunteers to help.
The community search will meet at 7 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, May 24. It meets at 765 14th St. N.E. For more information, see the group’s Facebook event. There is an open case with the Salem Police Department.
