Good evening, Salem.

Salem is on a better course than a year ago thanks to a voter-approved tax levy that’s allowed the city to invest in innovative public safety programs.

That’s one key takeaway from Mayor Julie Hoy’s State of the City address, given Wednesday, March 11, at the Salem Convention Center. She touted new city programs like the fire department’s mobile crisis team and the recent expansion of the city’s police and civilian teams that work in homeless encampments.

Our story below has more on her speech, and we’ve also published the full text so you can read her entire address. There’s video of the speech here from Capital Community Media.
