Good evening, Salem.

Dozens of firefighters from local and state agencies worked Wednesday afternoon to get a brush fire between Salem and Turner under control.

The fire burned about six acres and began after a semi truck hit a power pole on Southeast Gath Road, knocking it over.

As of 4:45 p.m., fire officials said they had the blaze surrounded and were continuing air drops. Their primary concern is stopping the fire from spreading south into brush.

“We think we have it under control,” Salem Fire Assistant Chief Brian Carrara said.

Evacuation orders remain in place. Our reporters will continue to monitor the fire and update throughout the evening as warranted.
