Good evening, Salem.

Tuesday is National Night Out, a day where neighbors are encouraged to host block parties and evening events focused on making neighborhoods better and safer.

The event is intended to celebrate police-community relationships, according to the city of Salem’s website, and police teams will visit block parties around the city.

Many Salem neighborhoods and groups are participating with block parties or other special events. That includes a zucchini car race at the Center 50+, 2615 Portland Rd in N.E. from 4-7 p.m., where participants can enjoy hot dogs and music while they race produce down a 20-foot track for glory.

Keep your eyes on your neighborhood for a flyer about an event near you, or check this list from the city for a partial roundup.
