Good evening, Salem.
Salem business owners were, on the whole, not thrilled about a Cherriots plan to expand service by raising their taxes.
Board members with the transit agency tried to sell their plan during a tense meeting Thursday morning, saying businesses would benefit from workers and customers having easier access through expanded morning, evening and weekend hours. Most in the room were unconvinced, saying they can’t afford a a tax hike.
Reporter Madeleine Moore has a report below on what happened and what’s next. Her prior story here explains Cherriots’ aims in more detail.
