Good evening, Salem.

The most divisive political issue in Oregon has been settled: Oregonians may now pump their own gas in every county in the state.

Gov. Tina Kotek on Friday signed House Bill 2426, which allows gas stations around the state to offer self-service pumps. The law takes effect immediately.

If you’d rather an attendant pump you gas for you, don’t worry. Gas stations in don’t have to let customers pump their own gas, and they must have an equal number of self-service pumps and pumps with an attendant in non-rural counties, which include Marion and Polk.

They also can’t charge more if someone pumps your gas for you.

New Jersey is now the only U.S. state that bans self-service gasoline.
