Good evening, Salem.
Several hundred people gathered along Center Street near the Oregon State Capitol Thursday afternoon to protest President Donald Trump’s administration.
Many signs referenced the president’s aggressive immigration enforcement efforts and cuts to Medicaid included in Congressional Republicans’ “Big Beautiful Bill.”
The demonstration was held on the 5th anniversary of civil rights leader John Lewis’ death and named “Good Trouble” in his honor. Similar protests ranging in size from dozens to thousands of people have occurred regularly in Salem since Trump took office for his second term, including the massive “No Kings” protest in June.
