Your Tuesday evening update on Salem news

Good evening, Salem.

The weather right now is a perfect recipe for fire, according to the National Weather Service.

“Breezy winds, low relative humidities along with dry grasses and shrubs are resulting in favorable conditions for fire spread through this evening,” the agency said in a statement Tuesday morning. “The strongest winds and lowest relative humidities are likely to occur within the Southern and Central Willamette Valley. Please limit activities that could result in stray sparks or fires.”

A heat advisory continues until Wednesday evening. Salem is expected to hit a low of 65 degrees tonight, and a high of 99 tomorrow.

Cooling centers are operating into the evening in Salem and surrounding communities. Marion County’s health department has a list here.
