Your Thursday evening update on Salem news

Salem Reporter logo

Good evening, Salem.

Awards season is starting.

No, we’re not talking about this weekend’s Grammy Awards. Several flagship local awards are underway too.

Nominations are open now for Salem First Citizen, the annual honor bestowed by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. It typically recognizes someone who’s spent decades contributing to the community. You can nominate a worthy recipient here.

In early February, nominations will also open for the Crystal Apple awards, honoring outstanding teachers and educators. If you’re thinking of getting a packet together, you can start planning now.

And the city of Salem is also seeking nominees for youth-focused awards as part of its annual ILEAD youth leadership summit. We’ll have a bit more on that in a story tomorrow. The deadline is Feb. 3, and the nomination form with more specifics is here.

Here’s some of today’s news. Head to our website anytim for the latest in Salem.
