Good evening, Salem.
The Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency is still looking for volunteers to help shelter people in the Salem area when temperatures drop below freezing.
Temperatures will reach a low of around 29 degrees tonight and will reach nighttime lows below freezing throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service.
The shelter at Salem First Presbyterian Church will be open each night through Friday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The church is located at 770 Chemeketa St. N.E. Learn more in our story below.
Those interested in volunteering through the Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency’s network can apply online. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and pass a background screening. Before working in the shelter, volunteers must attend a two-hour training session, offered in person and online each week.
The website also has more information on volunteering, and people can get involved at any point during the winter. Those with questions can contact [email protected].
Outside of Salem, The Santiam Warming Shelter is also seeking volunteers to open their shelter on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Learn more in their Facebook post, here.
