Salem Reporter picked for national support to expand, deepen local reporting
Salem Reporter has been selected for two prestigious national journalism programs to help the news organization deliver more local news to the community.
The organization also is continuing its affiliation with two other programs that also bolster Salem Reporter’s service to Salem.

This is great news! The caliber of your reporting shines in every news story you produce, so I’m not surprised you garnered these awards. We are lucky to have editing and reporting staff such as you. Keep up the good work. Salemites need your vision, accuracy and connections. Our community is proud of and thankful for you.

I’m impresssed by Salem Reporter’s ability to reach out to supporting organizations to both expand and improve its already respected offerings.
Including interns and securing mentoring for reporters shows an openness to new ideas and new people. For instance, designating an Education Reporter is an excellent idea! It’s important to include the metrics of educational costs and test scores, stated goals of this new position, as these will address concerns many community members have. However, I hope Salem Reporter will also highlight educational program innovations and successes which seem to receive little press coverage.
