Good evening, Salem.
A month after announcing their intent to merge, Salem Health and Santiam Hospital & Clinics have officially filed their request to do so with the Oregon Health Authority’s Health Care Oversight Committee. They’re hoping to get the green-light by the fall.
Hospital leadership said the merger will allow for further investment and expansion of Santiam’s offerings, including growth in its obstetrics and gynecology departments and the potential to add an urgent care clinic in an area lacking one.
If approved by state regulators, Salem Health will give Santiam $61 million to pay off its debts and fund infrastructure. Santiam’s rural Stayton hospital will add 40 beds to the Salem health system, which Chief Executive Officer Cheryl Nester Wolfe said will be needed as the population grows.
