Our team has spent the past few months working to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the March 28 crash where police say a truck driven by a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent collided with Marganne Allen, a cyclist heading home from work.
City records we recently received show for the first time how closely civilian public information officers from Salem police and the DEA kept in contact in the hours and days following the crash, apparently coordinating how the public would be told about the events that unfolded at the intersection of Southeast High and Leslie streets.
Reporter Ardeshir Tabrizian explains what we know about these contacts in the story below.
Pursuing these stories takes substantial time and resources, and Salem Reporter has spent thousands of dollars on public records as we’ve worked to report on this case. We’re grateful to all of our subscribers who make this work possible.
Here are some of today’s stories. Catch all of our latest reports on our website anytime.
