There have been no arrests yet, and city officials haven’t responded to questions about the camp and its status with the city. Our team will continue to gather information.
After designating Wallace Marine Park one of two camping locations for homeless Salemites during the Covid pandemic, the city swept the encampment in the spring of 2022. People have continued to live there since, with city officials regularly listing the park as a site of “clean ups” for a city outreach team.

Salem police said Thursday afternoon that an argument at a homeless camp in a west Salem park prompted a shooting which left 29-year-old Charley Hodges dead and another man wounded.
