A shooting early Thursday morning at Wallace Marine Park in west Salem left one man dead and another wounded, according to the Salem Police Department.
No one has been arrested for the shooting, the agency said in a statement.
Police responded just after 3 a.m. to the shooting in the north area of the park.
Officers found one man with a gunshot wound who was dead. A second man with a gunshot wound was taken to Salem Hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, police said in the statement.
The park remained closed as of 10 a.m. Thursday and police told residents to avoid the area while they investigate.
“We understand there is much speculative information on social media concerning the incident,” said Salem police spokeswoman Angela Hedrick said in the statement. “We ask the public to follow our communications platforms for details concerning this investigation.”
The agency said it would publish additional information as it becomes available.

Police on Thursday morning temporarily closed public access to Wallace Marine Park in west Salem while they investigate a shooting.
The Salem Police Department provided no details about the shooting in a post on X Thursday morning, including when it occurred and whether anyone was injured.
“Please avoid use of the park and its trails. No further info is being released at this time,” the agency said.
