We’ve got cooler temperatures ahead for the rest of this week, with rain likely starting late Thursday and continuing to Saturday.

Last Friday’s sun presented a great chance for reporter and photographer Hailey Cook to get out to the pumpkin fields, however. She caught some moments of joy that are worth a look in these turbulent times – check out that gallery below as well.

Fall fun is here as Salem farms kick off their annual harvest festivals, welcoming local families to explore corn mazes, pick pumpkins and ride hayrides.

CAN YOU TRUST THE MEDIA?: Les Zaitz, Salem Reporter editor, will examine the current state of the media and lack of trust by Americans in a presentation to the Salem City Club. According to the program notice, “Les Zaitz will help sort out how to decide you can trust a news source and when you should treat a source with deep skepticism. Facts matter. Les will explain why.”

He is scheduled to speak at noon Friday, Oct. 10, at Willamette Heritage Center (Dye House) 1313 Mill St. S.E. The public session is free for club members and $10 for others. (Register here). Les will be taking questions as well, so join him for this important topic.
