City councilors are contemplating Salem’s future tonight.

The council is scheduled for a work session at 6 p.m. to talk about the city’s next strategic plan. It’s a document that will guide city budgeting and priorities for the next five years.

Tonight’s meeting is only a discussion – no decisions will be made.

Meanwhile, Salem’s Democratic Socialists of America chapter is organizing a protest at the council’s upcoming Nov. 24 meeting, urging councilors to speak out about the wave of recent immigration arrests. That will take place at 6 p.m. next Monday and more information is here.
