Police arrest suspect in Friday shooting that led to McKay lockdown

Police arrested a suspect in an early morning shooting in northeast Salem Friday that prompted lockdowns at nearby schools as an hours-long search took place.

Deputies responded to a reported shooting in the neighborhood of Northeast Rockwood Park Court before 4 a.m. and found a 44-year-old woman with a gunshot wound, according to a statement Friday evening from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sheriff’s office deputies searched almost seven hours for the suspect, who the sheriff’s office identified as Roger Rodriguez Molina, 30. They determined the shooting stemmed from a domestic violence situation.

Schools in the area, including McKay High School, were placed on lockdown as a precaution. Aaron Harada, spokesman for Salem-Keizer School District, said Friday the McKay lockdown ended around 12:05 p.m. after about two hours.

Rodriguez Molina evaded capture twice, before officers detained him around the 2800 block of Northeast Lancaster Drive. The statement did not say when the arrest was made. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, attempted kidnapping, violation of a no-contact order, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless endangering and resisting arrest.

He was lodged in the Marion County Jail as of Saturday morning.

The Salem Police Department and Oregon State Police assisted in the case.
