Mock trial teams from West Salem and McNary high schools qualified for the state competition, held March 16 and 17 at the Hatfield Federal Courthouse in Portland.

They are among 16 teams from across Oregon who will compete to represent the state in nationals.

Students from both schools held a scrimmage in Marion County Justice Court last weekend, with Judge Justin Kidd presiding. Coaches shared photos of the event, where students question witnesses, submit objections and learn about the legal system through hands-on practice.
