Good morning, Salem.

The heat is on.

Western University of Health Sciences Lebanon Oregon

The National Weather Service is warning of “excessive heat” in the Salem area, with temperatures topping 100 degrees every day through Tuesday.

The forecast high for Friday is 102. The high on the Fourth of July was 94.

“Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures 100 to 105 expected. Overnight temperatures will also be very warm, only falling below 70 degrees for a short period late each night, if at all,” according to the warning. “The warm nighttime temperatures will limit chances to recover from the heat, exacerbating the risk of heat-related illness in this prolonged heat wave.”

If you’d like to help keep fellow Salemites safe, donations of bottled water, electrolytes, and other heatwave essentials can be made at the ARCHES Lodge located at 1875 Fisher Road N.E.

Community members can also sign up to volunteer at the ARCHES Day Center, which offers cooling and fluids for unsheltered people.

Our team will bring you details through the coming days on updated forecasts, where cooling centers are open and how to guard against ill effects of the heat wave.
