Good morning, Salem.

The Salem City Council has a relatively quiet meeting tonight.

Western University of Health Sciences Lebanon Oregon

Councilors will vote to authorize the city to apply for state grants for two projects intended to make it safer for kids to walk to school:

  • A pedestrian crossing near Parrish Middle School at Northeast Market Street and Northeast 15th Street, which would add a flashing beacon and curb ramps to the intersection
  • Safety improvements including a pedestrian median on Southeast Pringle Road near Leslie Middle School.

Councilors will review several reports, including Salem Police Department’s vehicular pursuits annual report, and the department’s report on use of force. We’ll have a summary of that report later today.

How to participate

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. Monday, July 22, and will be both in-person at the council chambers, 555 Liberty St. S.E., and available to watch online.

Members of the public can submit a comment for the budget hearing or on any other item on the council agenda.

To comment remotely, sign up on the city website between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday. The meeting will be livestreamed on YouTube in English and Spanish.

For written comments, email [email protected] before 5 p.m. on Monday, or submit on paper to the city recorder’s office at the Civic Center, 555 Liberty St. S.E., Room 225. Include a statement indicating the comment is for the public record.
