Good morning, Salem.

That’s because elementary schools in the Salem-Keizer district are closing Wednesday through Friday for a three-day training. Most educators will be learning about teaching students to read – a deep dive that district leaders say is badly needed. We’ve got more on the training and why it’s being done in our article below.

If you want to learn more about how our schools got here and what’s being done to address the student reading crisis, our Town Hall next week will offer answers. Join us at the Elsinore Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 5, 6-7:30 p.m. for an expert panel and lively discussion focused on solutions.
