Elementary schools to close as teachers get 3 days of reading training
Elementary schools in Salem and Keizer will close for three days this week to train thousands of teachers so they can better help students learn to read.
The unprecedented effort will leave 15,000 students at home on Wednesday, Jan. 28, and Thursday, Jan. 29. A day with no classes for grading and training had earlier been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30.

This seems like a quick and substantive action, as an emergency response should be. I appreciate knowing some of the details, like teachers being grouped with others from different schools and including the music teachers; it seems like a well-designed training. We’re rooting for your success, Salem teachers!!
